Just a Thought

What's 222?

When you see in this number, 222? Some see redundancy. Others see a mathematical product. Some folks my age and older see an obscure TV show from the 66’s.

How Do You Lose a Mega Church?

Whenever Baptist leaders get uncomfortable with the numbers, Lifeway’s Ed Stetzer reminds us, “Facts are our friends.” I worked hard to keep this in mind during a recent exercise.

Preach the Word

When I began in ministry 30 years ago, I never expected some of the issues we Christians must now address. In fact, when people predicted such I, like many, turned a deaf ear and considered their claims extreme and alarmist.

Send: Montreal

I spent last week with two of our BBA pastors on a vision tour of Montreal, Canada. Montreal, with a metro population of 3.8 million, stands out as the most lost city in North America. The North American Mission Board tells us that only 5 persons in every thousand know Christ as Lord and Savior. Compare this to Bowie County, where 250 of every thousand worship with Bible teaching churches, and 500 of 1000 profess faith in Christ.

Where is Your Gun Pointed?

When Karen and I were missionaries out west, many of the churches we served were the only evangelical witness for miles around, sometimes a hundred miles or more. For this reason, it was important for us to cooperate with other Christians who shared our convictions. Their churches might not have “Baptist” on their signs, but their message was in line with ours. We figured that, with the enemy on the prowl (1 Peter 5:8), God’s armies could not afford turning their guns on one another. So we worked together.

Ready... Aim... Fire

I love guns. A trip to the range with my Sig P229 and a box of ammo is my kind of relaxation.
